About the Media Team

We’re a small team of educators, creators, facilitators and media makers. We come from all around the world, from different backgrounds, with different experiences, but with similar beliefs when it comes to the importance of education, the power and potential of process based education, and the growing role of media, communication and technology in our day to day lives.

The student community at UOWD is a big part of the Media Team. The students of today (and tomorrow) are super innovative, super creative, and a lot of fun to work with. This blog is meant to be a place to share the creations of students, to bring their work to a wider audience, to give them a voice, and to give their stories a voice and platform.

All of the work and projects featured on the various pages here follow 2 main media making principles: #fist & #fefo

#fist stands for Fast, Inexpensive, Simple & Tiny. We believe that media making doesn’t need to be technology dependent, it doesn’t need to be expensive to make, it doesn’t need to take years to make and produce. Instead, some of the most impactful media making of today focuses on rapid ideation, rapid prototyping and testing, and is agile enough to adapt to the ever-changing media landscape.

#fefo stands for Fail Early, Fail Often. All too often educational systems, social systems, and media making systems discourage failing, or see failing as catastrophic. We see failing as a vital part of the learning process, and a vital part of the media making & problem solving process. Because we encourage #fist, we expect #fefo, but we end up with projects like you can see on here.

We also believe and practice 2 other key things when it comes to media and education. First is that we have fun. Media is fun, making media is fun, there’s no reason learning about making media shouldn’t be fun.

Second is we embrace the emerging nature of media, technology and education. Our work and projects isn’t predictable and doesn’t follow a set path or direction. Projects are self-directed and chosen. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn’t have a say in what we create. We give you the power to choose to make what you want.

Putting these 4 things together, #fist, #fefo, fun and emerging media practices, we end up with amazing projects, we end up with students who are excellent creative problem solvers, but most importantly, we end up with people who are ready to make a difference in the world.
